What Happens After You Screw Up?
Sales Growth Quote of the Day“The essence of being human is that one does not seek perfection.” George Orwell I Screw Up All The Time.We all do.In fact, I don’t try to be perfect. That would be a waste of time. Perfection doesn’t exist.I do my best to be my best. I work hard to be good at what I do.Yet, in sales, as in life, there are so many variables that are beyond our control.Mistakes and missteps will happen. All that you can control is how you respond after a mistake.Do you become demoralized? Does it sap your energy?Or, does a mistake become a learning experience? Do you bounce back with a resolve to do better? If your mistake affects others (like a buyer or a fellow member of your sales team) do you take responsibility? Or try to place the blame on others? It’s how you respond in these moments that speaks volume about your character.I previously wrote about the 7 traits that define good character.
- Empathy
- Decency
- Politeness
- Self-restraint
- Commitment
- Honesty
- Cooperativeness
Review these elements of good character again. Each one represents a choice. You get to write your own story in life. Including how you respond to adversity. You have the ability choose the person you want to be.Do you know who that person is?- Andy Paul
