In fact, buyers reflexively recoil from a seller like you'd jump on seeing a large hairy spider in your bathtub.It’s the fight or flight response.Unfortunately, most sellers make buyers want to flee.The challenge for sellers is to proactively do what the buyer would prefer not to be done at all.This is why selling is not a natural act.You have to learn how constructively connect with people who instinctively feel uncomfortable in your presence.And, find a way to convince them that you can better help them achieve their goals than the snakes waiting in the lobby (i.e. your competitors.)That’s all based on your ability to a) connect with buyers on a human level; b) activate their interest in exploring a change; c) build the necessary trust with stakeholders; and, d) empower them to make a decision.These might be seem like fundamental skills that are table stakes for all sellers.Except…yes, there’s a problem I see nearly every day.Sellers may once have been taught these skills, but they aren’t using them.The issue is not whether you’ve been taught these skills.It’s whether you've mastered them.Until you do, you need to spend time every day learning, re-learning and practicing them.- Andy P.S.
